Hello, I am Ovidiu Csillik and it’s a pleasure to meet you!
I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in AsnerLab at Carnegie Institution for Science, Stanford, USA, working on mapping tropical forests carbon stocks and emissions using high resolution remotely sensed data. I recently defended my Ph.D. thesis at the University of Salzburg, Austria, having expertise in remote sensing, object-based image analysis (OBIA), image segmentation, land cover mapping, time series analysis, and geomorphometry. My Ph.D. thesis was entitled “Spatio-temporal object-based image analysis for land use/land cover mapping” and tackled ideas like improving the accuracy and speed of OBIA workflows, applying object-based machine learning techniques to classify remotely sensed data and analyzing time series of Sentinel-2 images for crop mapping using machine learning methods and dynamic time warping.
Currently enjoying Stanford, my past experiences include a visiting scholar research stay at the University of California, Berkeley, at the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management. With a Master degree in Geographic Information Systems and a Bachelor degree in Geography, I am always looking to learn new things and be ahead of the current developments in my research.
Between my Master degree and start of Ph.D. I founded a company dedicated to GIS services and consulting, named Enjoy Maps. With multiple local, regional and national projects, Enjoy Maps had media appearances on many important media players in Romania, like ProTV, Digi, Discovery, ProMotor, HotNews, Adevarul or Realitatea. I successfully led projects from a local level to European level.
My research is certified by publications in top journals, like Remote Sensing of Environment (#2 place most downloaded), ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (hot article on Web of knowledge), Remote Sensing or Geomorphology. Check the Publication page for complete list of papers!
